I painted this over a couple of weeks while getting ready for a show, near the end of September. By the time I finished, summer was over and the lemons turned hard and went from a bright yellow/green/orange to a dark yellow/brown/red color, which I came to appreciate even more than the sunniness of their normal hue. They remind me that with the change of seasons come (whether we're ready for them or not) things we've forgotten about and didn't even know we were missing--the days, shorter, cooler and the promise of slowing down and harvesting time.
